「美しさ」の再定義

このブログは、主に女性が元気になりそうな記事が多く、私も好きでたまに読んでいるのですが、この記事は、32歳のママライターであるRachel Hollisさんの、ある写真について書いたものです。

レイチェルは、ご主人とメキシコのカンクーンにバケーション旅行に行った際、自分のビキニの写真をアップしました。

 

 

 

以下のようなメッセージと共に。

 

I have stretch marks and I wear a bikini. I have a belly that’s permanently flabby from carrying three giant babies and I wear a bikini. My belly button is saggy… (which is something I didn’t even know was possible before!!) and I wear a bikini. I wear a bikini because I’m proud of this body and every mark on it. Those marks prove that I was blessed enough to carry my babies and that flabby tummy means I worked hard to lose what weight I could. I wear a bikini because the only man who’s opinion matters knows what I went through to look this way. That same man says he’s never seen anything sexier than my body, marks and all. They aren’t scars ladies, they’re stripes and you’ve earned them. Flaunt that body with pride! #HollisHoliday

上のメッセージをちょっと訳してみましょう。

 

I have stretch marks and I wear a bikini.

私はストレッチマーク（妊娠線）があり、ビキニを着ます。

 

I have a belly that’s permanently flabby from carrying three giant babies and I wear a bikini.

私のおなかは3人のジャイアントベビーを妊娠したことで永久的にたるんでいるけれど、ビキニを着ます。

 

My belly button is saggy… (which is something I didn’t even know was possible before!!) and I wear a bikini.

私のおへそは垂れ下がって・・・（そんなことありえないと思ってたけど！）、ビキニを着ます。

 

I wear a bikini because I’m proud of this body and every mark on it.

私はビキニを着ます。なぜなら、この体の全てのマーク（跡）を誇りに思っているから。

 

Those marks prove that I was blessed enough to carry my babies and that flabby tummy means I worked hard to lose what weight I could.

これらのマークは、私が妊娠に恵まれていたという証拠であり、たるんだおなかは、妊娠後に減量しようと頑張ったという意味です。

 

I wear a bikini because the only man who’s opinion matters knows what I went through to look this way.

私はビキニを着ます。なぜなら、私にとって意味のある意見を言ってくれる男性はただ一人（ご主人ですね）で、彼はどうして私がこうなったのかを知っているからです。

 

That same man says he’s never seen anything sexier than my body, marks and all.

その男性は、私の体やマークを含めた全てが、この世で何よりもセクシーだと言ってくれます。

 

They aren’t scars ladies, they’re stripes and you’ve earned them.

女性の皆さん、これらは傷跡じゃないですよ。あなたが手に入れた名誉の勲章です。

(Stripesは、軍人の栄誉を称えてバッジに与えられる線ですね。）

どうでしょうか？

写真を見てわかるとおり、彼女は恥ずかしがったり、自分の体を嫌ったりしている素振りはありません。むしろ彼女のスマイルは自信に溢れ、写真を撮ってくれたご主人への信頼すら見えます。

 

これを見て、じゃあ着たことのないビキニを着ましょう！と言うわけではありませんが、女性として、自分の体を愛すること、自分の人生と経験に愛情を持つことについて考えさせられた写真でした。
